When one is in the middle of a war zone, that is where he needs love the most. That’s what Sean Laidlaw found. In the middle of all the fallen debris and concrete, he heard a cry and went out to check who it was.

That’s when he found this beautiful dog under all the pile of concrete and brick. The dog has been through a lot, just like he has, so it took time to gain her trust. It took the soldier around four days for the dog to trust him.

They called the dog Barrie thinking she was a boy, turns it he was the opposite. They kept the name as that’s what they were used to calling her. She was finally able to come with him to camp, and she was such a joy to everyone.

Every soldier enjoyed her presence and would give her toys daily. Laidlaw and Barrie were inseparable! She would go to tasks and missions with him.

Unfortunately, it was time or Laidlaw to leave Syria, and it was more difficult than he thought to bring Barrie. The two weeks that he has been home, Syria has deteriorated so much that he was not allowed to come back.

His thoughts were on Barrie and how to bring Barrie to the UK. He was able to find an organization named War Paws who was able to help him arrange Barrie’s flights. But it would take three more months as part of the process is they needed to make sure Barrie was not carrying any disease.

The day finally came when Barrie was to fly to the UK. Laidlaw was worried that she would not remember her, but she did. People thought that he saved Barrie’s life, but the soldier thinks it’s the opposite.
